Marlo,

I have had an eventful few days. I sorted out much of the other days problems though the fridge is still not 100%. The freezer however is okay. I had a problem with electricity and it turned out to be a faulty cable, but i have had that replaced.

Yesterday the swell increased within the Marina. I put in place extra ropes to help deal with the strain on the ropes. I am glad i did as the some of the older ropes broke and also some of the new ropes broke too. A total of four or five broke. It was a stressful run between areas of the boat checking on which ropes were about to go and how to fix it. As time went on i had less ropes to work with and also the ropes i have been using are not strong enough to hold the weight of the boat.

I patiently and persistently demanded some kind of assistance from the Port Authority and eventually i was given some help. several men including a wharf Pilot assisted me in giving me temporary ropes and attempting to release the anchor for extra stability within the marina.

This morning i was aided by the Port Authority's Harbor Master who sorted out 5 huge ropes to be used on the Port bow, Starboard bow and Port Stern and Starboard Stern of the boat. Also a rope from the bowsprit to a mooring post. This should help with the worsening swell expected to rise tomorrow.

All i can do is work hard to keep things in place, The sooner we leave for Tahiti the better. Captain Paul will be back Wednesday.

Faa Faa tai Faa Saa Fu a,

Felix

  2. Dear Felix
Sounds a most interesting day of swells and ropes under strain. Is the swell coming from an unusual angle? Thought the harbor would be protected by walls so it was smooth. We are at Worthing playing scrabble and shopping at Hugo's shops getting the most from his sales and discount. Krisia has a new pair of walking boots and I have a leatherman and sleeping bag. The bag should be a lot better for camping in the lake district or indeed a south sea island. The pictures come over very well on the blog. The new ropes showing up very white.

    all the best

  3. Never a dull momment with a boat. They always keep you busy. The 2 best days of a mans life. The day he buys his first boat. The second best day, the day he sells it! Theres a little truth in that but the adventure is priceless. Im going to montana next week for my grandmothers funeral. She died on Sat morning almost 100 years old. I think I sent you the youtube link on "caroline Duncan" So I"ll be there with some family and Mike Jetmore and Melanie are there also. Britney from my hall says hello also. Shes wanting to travel and says your fortunate to be able to travel like this. I just told her " hes not fortunate he just does it". This time I think your earning your keep on board that bucket of bolts. Nice rope! Russ

  4. Well done with the maintenance; you are keeping on top of everything well it seems. The new photos are fantastic- it feels like we can visualise your situation at the harbour. Well done for getting the port authority on-side too, that is great. Try and keep your strength up for the voyage ahead!
    Love,

  6. Felix, talk to your mum about the refridgeration problems, all you need is an oil drum, some sand and plenty of water. Can't wait to see what Worthing's beach patrol do when they discover it on the beach next summer.

Sound's like your having a great time and the pictures are great. You haven't missed anything here, apart from the snow which refused to melt for 4 days. Oh and the half price Lindermans sale at Morrisons.
